Wet skin, latex, metal, enormous eyes. My women are beautiful and almost human; their features are slightly wrong, slightly elsewhere. That small strangeness is not decoration — it is the device. It puts just enough distance between you and the body that looking stops being consumption and becomes contemplation. You are given permission to stare.
For years I believed my work needed pain to be taken seriously. I built my early aesthetic out of chronic anxiety, and it was honest then. Then the anxiety left — and the work did not collapse. It clarified. Underneath the armor was the thing that had been there from the very beginning: pleasure. The pure aesthetic joy of the female body — the curve, the light on wet skin, the tension of material against flesh. Desire not as confession, not as wound, but as subject.
This is what I explore now: what desire looks like when it stops apologizing. "Just" is the most dishonest word in "just erotica." Museums are full of nudes we call classical; the difference between them and what gets dismissed today is not the body — it is the frame. My work insists on that frame. The erotic image, made precisely, belongs on the same wall.
Pain was easy to justify. Pleasure is the harder, more honest work.
